How Did Chiropractic Start? A Short Story of the History of Chiropractic

The history of chiropractic can be traced back to the late 19th century in the United States. The founder of chiropractic, Daniel David Palmer, was a magnetic healer who believed that misalignments of the spine, or subluxations, could cause a variety of health problems. Palmer claimed to have developed the first chiropractic adjustment in 1895, when he adjusted the spine of a deaf janitor, Harvey Lillard, and restored his hearing.

Palmer's son, B.J. Palmer, helped to develop chiropractic into a more organized profession. He founded the first chiropractic school in 1897, and he wrote extensively about the philosophy and practice of chiropractic.

Chiropractic grew slowly in the early years, but it gained popularity in the early 20th century. By the 1930s, there were over 10,000 chiropractors in the United States.

Chiropractic has continued to grow in popularity in the years since. There are now over 60,000 chiropractors in the United States, and chiropractic is practiced in over 100 countries around the world.

The philosophy of chiropractic is based on the idea that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. Chiropractors believe that subluxations can interfere with the body's ability to heal, and they use spinal adjustments to correct subluxations and restore health.

Chiropractic is a controversial practice. Some people believe that it is an effective form of healthcare, while others believe that it is not. Evidence and research suggest that chiropractic is an effective form of treatment for many different ailments.

Chiropractic is safer than modern healthcare for most people. However, we know that chiropractic isn’t the end-all-be-all care for some. It is important to talk with your chiropractor before making any decisions for care.

If you are considering chiropractic care, it is important to find a qualified chiropractor who is experienced in treating your specific condition. You should also be aware that chiropractic care is not a cure for any condition, but it may be an effective way to manage pain and improve function.

We’d love to hear from you and help walk you through if our office may be a right fit for you!
